Background
Adrian Johnson, Founder/CEO of Financial Counseling from The Heart of a Teacher (T.H.A.T.), has a passion for helping others achieve immeasurable success. He has always had a Heart to reach out to others. After finishing his B.B.A. in Information Systems and a M.S. in Instructional Technology from Mississippi State University, he moved to Dallas, TX and became a teacher for Dallas ISD. He taught Computer Applications for 5 years and was promoted as an Instructional Technology Specialist. In 2008, he joined Fort Worth ISD as an Educational Technology Specialist. He has presented countless trainings on a District, State, and National level. He has worked with all ages ranging from kindergarten to senior citizens. His passion and excitement for teaching is felt by his audiences. He leaves his participants feeling empowered and with a sense of self pride. His motto is, “Everyone can and wants to learn, if given the right opportunity”.
Deep in debt
In 2005, Adrian realized that he was winning at his career but losing with money. He was deep in debt (student loans, motor cycle payments, credit cards, etc.) with no hope of getting out. Later that year, he read several books on the subject of financial management which changed his life forever. After reading those books, he tore up his credit cards and began to adopt a new philosophy about money. From December 2005 to August 2007, he paid off $34,000 of debt. That’s not including the $4,000 he used to cash flow his wedding expenses. He is now happily married to Quaneshala Johnson and life is ten times better than he could have ever imagined. They both enjoy practicing the simplistic principles they teach to others.
The charge
After becoming debt free, he had a strong desire to find a way to help others achieve the same level of success he had attained. He remembered what it was like to feel helpless and powerless with money. He realized that he could not stand dormant and watch others repeat the same mistakes he once made. Thus, in 2009, Financial Counseling from The Heart of a Teacher (T.H.A.T.) was born. He could not think of a better way than to use his experience as a teacher coupled with his wisdom about managing money, as a teachable moment for others to learn from.
My Story
Quaneshala Johnson, COO of Financial Counseling from The Heart of a Teacher (T.H.A.T.), has always had a desire to help others travel down the road that leads to financial freedom. Throughout her life, she saw countless people making the same financial mistakes over and over again. The bible states, “People perish for the lack of knowledge”. If people only knew that there is a better way to live with money, she thought. With the right financial knowledge, people could enjoy a debt free lifestyle.
She started advising individuals about their finances in junior high school. She was well received by many of her peers because they knew she practiced what she preached. By applying the principals of God, she was able to graduate from college with a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from Florida A&M University and a MBA from Amberton University without acquiring debt.
Today she continues to be a strong advocate for living debt free. Her motto is, “Financial Freedom is for anyone who is willing to sacrifice short term pleasure in order to achieve long term success”. She believes that this is the perfect opportunity to share her enthusiasm regarding money management in order to help others restore their hope in a brighter tomorrow, especially in today's economy with so many people losing their jobs, their homes, and their faith.
